OUR STORY

Outdoor Gear For Every Adventurer

Founded in 1972 as an army surplus store, our name came from the two men who founded J&H, Danny Johnson and John Hall. The original store was located on North Broadway in downtown Lexington, Kentucky. As J&H’s loyal customer base grew and evolved, J&H began offering outdoor apparel, equipment, and supplies to outfit backpackers and outdoor enthusiasts as they headed out for their next adventure.

Even though the J&H brand has evolved over the years, we’ve always remained committed to providing our customers with superior quality and the best customer service in the business. We take pride in helping all people get outdoors with the right gear for any adventure.

Whether you’re headed to your first trail or your hundredth trail, we’ll help get you there.

On a Mission to Support Our Local Community

We believe in giving back to make our world a better place. Throughout our years in business, we have had the privilege of helping our community through charitable events and sustained efforts. Inspired by the individualistic and nature-loving spirit of the Central Kentucky region, we aren’t afraid of getting our hands dirty to serve our local community.

Through our support of local non-profit organizations, we strive to preserve, facilitate, and celebrate the places that make Lexington and the state of Kentucky a unique place to call home — because it’s our home too.
